OFF MY CHEST

The Breast Cancer Awareness session, OFF MY CHEST, held on Saturday October 31st as a regional zoom call was truly an enjoyable, informative and open session. As someone who is looking at a prospective career in medicine, specifically in the field of oncology, I not only enjoyed being a part of the planning process but also listening to the panel which consisted of a Barbadian cancer survivor, who underwent a double mastectomy, a Jamaican who from the time she was one year old experienced life with a parent who was diagnosed with cancer and a medical professional from Trinidad and Tobago. These individuals were able to give further insight on the struggles of dealing with breast cancer, how it affects the family dynamic, their views on the movement and ways in which the movement can be improved.

In addition, I also found the dynamic of the audience interesting, as hearing the various accents of the  Caribbean, North America and the United Kingdom tune in and share their respective stories in the question and answer portion of the session made me feel connected with persons even though we couldn't all be physically together.
