Learning from other Caribbean territories to enhance your own local community.
What is CARYFED?
The Caribbean Youth Forum on Environment and Development (CARYFED) is a study abroad programme, where students visit a Caribbean territory to investigate and conduct a comparative study on a theme of regional developmental significance while conducting and participating in seminars and symposia.
How does it work?
For two weeks, students will engage in activities to make them more globally aware, culturally literate, civically engaged and responsive to the needs of others. Each CARYFED trip is based on a theme. All of the activities such as tours, seminars, discussions and challenges and are based on the theme.
Community Service
The first few days of the forum is dedicated to community service. In years past, community service took the form of visiting the elderly, cleaning schools, building community centers and refurbishing campsites.
Community service is very important. All participants need to complete a minimum of 40 hours of community service in their home country before being eligible to attend a CARYFED forum.
The CARYFED Challenge
Each student will be strategically placed in a team. The teams will be given the task of presenting a solution to problem derived from the theme of the forum to a group of panelists. Each member of the winning team will be awarded $700 US redeemable at the next CARYFED forum.
